Operating out of a 5000 square foot facility, Mundill is a professional race team located at MSR Houston, a racetrack in Angleton, TX which offers year round test opportunities. Mundill is a team on the fast track of motorsports. Just barely 18 months old, Mundill has already assembled a team possessing the experience, skill and equipment that has what it takes to be successful in the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear.
Vision, hard work, and the ability to find the right talent are what make the team successful in racing. Businessman and driver, David Mundy and motorsports engineer Jeff Hill seem to have a talent for attracting rising young stars and putting them on the podium with stellar support, strategy and equipment.
Mundill consists of an international team of five up-and-coming drivers who together, across open wheel and karting have accumulated nearly fifty championships. In just the past year driver, Alex Ardoin won the Laguna Seca race, had three podiums, captured VP Fuel’s Most Improved Driver Award and finished sixth for the 2007 season. Driver Caio Lara placed third in the championship for Formula Sao Paulo, better known as Formula Ford, had ten podiums and 1 victory, setting a record in Formula Sao Paulo with consecutive podiums in a single season. Driver Scott Rettich joined the team just last year and already has 2 top 10 finishes in 6 Star Mazda events.
Mundill’s dedication to motorsports extends well beyond developing young, talented drivers. Take for instance their relationship with Texas A&M and the school’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) program. As part of a senior level design project, students conceptually design and build a formula style racecar and compete on an international level. Since most of these students do not have racing experience, Mundill’s racing internship program gives them hands-on experience with setting up a racecar, as well as an opportunity to personally participate in the team’s operation. Mundill’s goal is to give these students the advantage they need to pursue careers with Star Mazda, NASCAR, the Indy Racing League or the Champ Car Series.
Wrapping up the 2007 season with a win by “Louisiana Hot Shoe” Alex Ardoin, Mundill fully expects to be a championship contender in 2008. Of course performance brings value to sponsor partnerships and victories are important, but there’s more to a motorsports relationship than drivers who can win races: there’s a commitment on the part of the race team.
